July Soap Challenge- Opposites
Amy Warden of Great Cakes Soapworks hosts a monthly soap challenge. She has been doing this for a few years and is a pro at encouraging all of us soapers to pick up the gauntlet that she throws down. She researches and finds these creative and inspiring techniques for designing and coloring soap in new ways.
She makes video tutorials of her making the various soaps and offers tips and additional information and resources. She contacts sponsors for each challenge for first prize winners that all participants vote on for the best soap. She has soapmakers from the US participate as well as those from other countries.
What is also awesome is we get to download the videos and additional information for free at the time of the challenge so we have a ready library of new things to keep using and adding to our own library. I admire all the work that she does for these monthly challenges.
July’s challenge had a theme of opposites in soap whether in colors whether in typical black/white or opposite colors on the color wheel. I chose opposite colors of purple and yellow. I chose Bramble Berry’s Pomegrant /Black Current scent for the purple side and Orange Essential Oil for the yellow side which turned more orange due to the Orange EO. It smells really yummy and sweet.
I thought the top came out pretty cool when poured into the mold. I was impatient to let it sit for several days until it felt safe to remove. It was still pretty soft when I unmolded it but was okay.
This is my soap cutter and is called The Tank! I can a whole loaf in one motion ~ pretty cool!
I was quite pleased with how they turned out .
What sort of opposites do you think would also look good ?
