How to Show Love for Yourself
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and the stores are filled with offers for roses and chocolates and cute stuffed animals. I remember past Valentine’s, when me and my Mom bought those little inexpensive Valentine’s Day cards for my classmates. Did you do that? We made sure to get a card for everyone so no one got left out even if you didn’t know them.
As children, we are usually taught very well to love others. But, we are often left to figure out on our own how to love ourselves. This has always puzzled me as you cannot give away what you don’t have. There have been many sayings about this over the years such as you cannot love another unless you love yourself.
Recently I read an article by Deepak Chopra with tips on how to love ourselves. You can read it here .
He offers 7 ideas, one of which is to find a quiet space for self-reflection every day.
“Through meditation, self-reflection or contemplation, and the experience of quiet at least a few minutes every day, you make contact with your inner world. You learn to appreciate and enjoy it. ”
One way I follow this is to get up a bit earlier in the morning than everyone else. I make a pot of coffee and just sit in the morning quiet. It is usually still dark and I have one light burning. Sometimes I journal and sometimes i just sit and enjoy the quiet until I start hearing the birds calling up the morning.
This is my way of paying attention to myself and giving care and love to myself.
Question: How do you celebrate yourself? Do you carve out quiet time to reach inside and show love to the best parts of yourself? Why not celebrate with a pampering bath? Light a candle and sprinkle in some relaxing bath salts and breathe out all the stress and breathe in love and relaxation.
