The Energy of Stillness
This title seems to sound like an oxymoron to write about the “energy of stillness”. But, please stay with me here.
Stillness usually means the absence of energy and any activity as when your Mom told you to “be still” and stop whatever noise you were making when you were a kid.
But stillness does have its own energy, its own “vibe” of we know how to tune into it.
We are all so caught up (and I know you have heard this before) with the latest news flash, social media, texts, calls and on and on that we feel at times we are losing our minds. Now with the pandemic and all that stress we are still overwhelmed with worries about social distancing, being safe, feeling alone and like WHEN will things return to normal?
So what is this energy of stillness thing? This is the energy of the calming down of your mind. Yes, I am talking about meditation and no don’t go yet. I am talking about taking time to be with yourself. You can just take five or ten minutes to set aside for yourself. This does not need to be a long time, short is good. Especially if you do it.
PSST- you could even draw a bath, light a candle and really make it special if you want.
Sit or lay in a tub of warm water like a warm loving cocoon or sit in a comfy chair or couch or lie on your bed.
Close our eyes and try relaxing your body starting with your head down to your toes. Just feel like you are sighing into your body – come on you know how that feels. Really sink into your body and know you are in your skin.
Now, notice your breath- how your lungs fill up with your breath through your nose and feel you belly pouf out as you fill them up – pause a few seconds – then exhale through your mouth and pause again and then repeat.
Concentrate on your breathing and if your mind wanders around with this or that thought, just let the thoughts go as if you were watching traffic on a highway. No fuss just let them go and bring your self back to your breaths.
Try even for five minutes and see how you feel afterwards.
This is the energy of stillness – being present and within yourself. The flow of your breath is that energy.
How was that? Let me know and comment below.
Try doing this a couple of times and see how you feel.
There is a phone app called Headspace that helps with meditation and you can find the link here. The have a free trial so you can try it out and see.
