Monsters, Witches & Pumpkins Oh My!
It’s that time of year when the scary movies with things that go bump in the night abound and the wind blows and rustles the leaves outside. We sit down in the evenings with our family or a pet or just a big pillow to hold onto and watch scary movies. It just feels like the right thing to do at this time of year.
Last Saturday I did a short marathon of the TV series American Horror Story. I watched the first five episodes and could see the nightmares creaking around my bed. But I was not alone when I watched it as I had my daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter keeping me company as well as three dogs! 🙂 But I said more will have to wait till they come over again! And to think they had the nerve to tell me I would need to call them on the phone and tell them to stay on if I wanted to watch another episode. Well maybe.
But the best movie I love to watch at this time of year and can watch by myself like a big girl, is the Mel Brooks production of “Young Frankenstein”. This classic movie is filmed in black and white for starters to give it that vintage look and feel. Next it stars Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman and is just awesome. I found a YouTube video titled Young Frankenstein in Five Minutes which gives you a good feel for what the film is about and you can watch it here. I highly recommend it for some great laughs and enjoyment!
Then there are the movies about witches and there are several that I can recommend. “Hocus Pocus ” with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy is fun to watch. The “Witches of East Wick” is a good one starring Jack Nicholson and Cher. Another good flick as well is “Practical Magic” with Sandra Bullock. The movie “Witches” stars Angelica Houston and she is indeed the Grand Witch. And of course last but not least, the Wizard of Oz! I have seen a quote that this was the ultimate chick flick, two women trying to kill each other over a pair of shoes.
And then the classic, “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”! Nothing more can be said of this one.
