What Inspires you to Create?
What things inspire you to create? To write a thought down – to take a photo of something you wanted to memorize – colors, what is your favorite? Drawing or coloring images? What stirs the passion in your belly?
We all have things, images, memories, thoughts, sounds, smells that create a buzz in our head and speak to our heart. For me it has been colors and scents and, the feel of silky fabric. Quilting and soapmaking have both pulled me and lately pen and paper and moving my hand across the page with my journaling.
But I also love being able to share what I know very well which at this time in my life is making soap. I feel it can be an addiction at times with new mica colors and new fragrances coming out all the time and thinking of new essential oil blends. I feel like a magpie and flit about at all the new shiny things I could gather up and play with!
This craft feeds both sides of my brain- the chemistry and science of formulating a new recipe that does has a different luscious scent or seems to be more skin-loving. The creativity and artistry that takes colors and forms new designs. I love all this about soapmaking.
And what I also love is sharing this passion for soap making with others and showing them what is possible to make and use. I love seeing a spark light up the eyes of my students as they make their first batch of soap. I never get tired of seeing this passion light them up.
So, what feeds the fire in your belly? What things do you get excited about and look forward to doing? Is it reading a mystery novel that is a real page turner that gets you wrapped up in the plot so you stay reading till 2 AM? Is it going for a hike in the woods where you can gaze up at a clear blue sky? Pulling out a recipe that you have not made in a long time and deciding now is the time to make it?
We all have secret passions or maybe not so secret things that fire us up and get us excited. Things that make a fiery start in the pit of our stomach and spread out to warm us all over in that glow. Taking the time out your day or week to stop and grab some time for yourself to do something that warms your heart. This is where passion starts. A craft or task or just calling up a friend to share a cup of coffee.
We all need to steal some time for ourselves or share with others what brings us joy!
How about coming to my house and spend some time learning a new craft? I welcome you into my space and I will teach you about the process of making soap from scratch.
I have just started in-person classes. I am fully vaccinated but require you to be wearing masks to be safe with the new variant cases if you are not vaccinated. I am only doing individual or couple classes. I am retired so the class can be weekday or weekend. But you must contact me to schedule. We will play with luscious oils and butters and of course colors and scents. You will leave with your creation of a 2lb batch of soap and lots of handouts.
Come and play and learn!
You can register online click here for classes page on our website but please call me before so we can schedule a class. You can call 336-403-1662 with questions.
I love this picture of you. In action and making some soapy goodness!
Thank you it was a fun class. 🙂
For me, it’s color. When I see color, I am inspired to create. The vibrancy catches me like a wind in a sail.
For me also color and the mixture of colors! 🙂
