Do you hear the earth waking?
This week’s brief cold snap was like a last reminder that in terms of winter we are not out of the woods yet. But, the temps have started rising again to more normal weather for this time of year. I will take what the normal is and not get too greedy for spring quite yet.
The leaves on the trees are still tight in their buds on the bushes and trees. The snowdrops, first heralds of spring have not spread their petals yet. Puddles still freeze up overnight and do not melt till mid-day. It’s like the earth is trying to decide what time of the season it is and cannot yet make up its mind.
Have you in turn noticed that the days have been slowly getting longer? The earth is waiting for the light to return and awaken us to spring.
Just as the sap in the trees left the branches once the leaves dropped and scooted down to the roots, the earth’s energy is slowly rising back up. It is time to slowly gather our energy and shake off that winter hibernation.
But if we have not had that lull over the past few months and have been following those squirrels in their distractions or the to-do lists or the stresses of the push and pull of overwhelm, I invite you to step outside and breathe in the warmer air and the first awakenings of the earth to spring. Turn your face into the warm afternoon sun and just be. Feel it and take it in if only for five minutes and give yourself a respite.
Spring is a coming and with it the yearly cycle starts again. The awakening of the earth with new growth and new green sprout breaking through the soil.
This is also a good time to think about what you want to plant this spring. What things do you want to bring to fruition? This is not meant to be another to do list.
What calls your heart for you to do for yourself? What dreams and wishes all you?
Maybe it’s time to take time for yourself. Set aside some time to light a candle- fill a warm bath- grab a glass of wine or a cup of tea. Add some Lavender bath salts to help relax your spirit and let your mind wander to where your dreams and wishes lie.
